“Art as personal myth.” “There is a fascinating blend between the delicate and the sinister. Semiramis and Dorian Gray can share a shelf without it seeming like a mistake.” “The use of materials has dramatic intent: plaster, coal, shell, marble… each has its symbolic role. That is sculptural thinking, not accident.” “Coherence between work, voice, and intention.”

Custom Artwork
Maybe you’ve always wanted a Dorian Gray mask glaring from your office wall.
Or a sculpture of a dove alighting on Semiramis’ hand—the legendary founder of Babylon.
Perhaps a bust of Marie Curie, Aristotle, Cleopatra, Mozart, Elena Garro, Ignatius J. Reilly, Bobby Fischer, Alexander the Great, Joan of Arc, or Muhammad Ali—any figure your imagination demands.
Or simply a plaster mask in acrylic and epoxy resin, where Poe’s Red Death drips blood from the eyes, nostrils, and mouth.

Artistic Masks
I'm fascinated by faces.
I search expressions for traces of terror, tenderness, vice, goodness, temptation, or beauty.
From this, I make masks.
Masks… and something more:
Faces with narrative conflict.
I read, for example, The Death Ship by Bruno Traven.
With plaster, epoxy resin, and pieces of coal, I sculpt the face of the Yorikke's stoker, whose eyes burn when a boiler explodes.
I choose not to express pain, but something less obvious—and far more important.
I sculpt a serene mask… that represents the human capacity to overcome any tragedy.

Narrative Sculpture
My grandmother read mythology during the final years of her life.
On her 89th birthday, I sculpted for her on a seashell the fusion of Eurynome and Ophion, so that on her library desk she would have a representation of the Greek creation myth.
An essential part of my work is precisely that: giving life to each client’s imagination.

Artistic Miniatures and Ornamental Pieces
My creations also include artistic miniatures and ornamental pieces—exercises in syncretism and delicacy.
Process:
I sculpt a plaster snail joined to a real shell.
A hermaphroditic being that, according to Mixe cosmogony, gathers all that is diverse in its path.
A magical relic that unites the world of the living with that of the dead.

Artistic Intervention of Objects
I make artistic interventions on objects with dramatic intent.
Imagine a small safe.
I surround it with intertwined clay serpents.
Now it becomes a safe and something more: the Knot of Vipers that ruthlessly protects the heart of Louis, protagonist of François Mauriac’s novel (I am a man whom no one loves).
I do this with tables, mirrors, clocks, albums, crucifixes, candles, chairs, old telephones, window bars, locks, or cages.
If you have an object in your home and a literary idea, I’ll perform an artistic intervention on it with dramatic intent.

Who is ARJ?
I am an artist with criminological training.
Through this exploration of literary characters, I have developed my own artistic language.
My creations, which have been included in catalogs of important international galleries (such as 1819 Art Gallery and Yuri López Kullins), are distinguished by their:
-
Intellectual rigor
-
Psychological depth
-
Expressive force
-
Literary, plastic-arts discourse
-
Mythological references
-
Use of materials with dramatic intent
I am intrigued by the sophistication of the unsettling.
My technique serves the discourse.

And what do I narrate?
The most luminous and shadowy aspects of human nature.
